The AXL token trades on some exchanges in an ERC-20 version. Before staking, ERC-20 AXL must be converted into native AXL. Axelar makes this simple. Here's how to do it.
Axelar has issued ERC-20 versions of the AXL token to EVM chains, e.g. Ethereum, Avalanche. You may want to convert these to the native token on the Axelar blockchain, in order to stake tokens and perform other actions on the network. To do so, follow the steps below.
Some exchanges that list AXL will list the ERC-20 version of the token. Most of these are assigning it the ticker wAXL. Other exchanges are listing the native AXL token, which gets no prefix: the ticker is just AXL. (A limited number of exchanges are using other conventions, due to technical limitations -- including WAXL in some cases and, in others, simply AXL to denote the ERC-20 version of AXL. Please read listing information carefully on each exchange, to understand which version it supports.) Throughout this post we will use wAXL to refer to ERC-20 AXL.

This tutorial shows how to convert ERC-20 AXL (wAXL) to native tokens using the Keplr wallet. The process will be similar for other wallets that support Axelar network, including Cosmostation. Remember that if you are using a Ledger device in conjunction with your Keplr wallet, you will need to make sure the Ledger device is connected and the appropriate app (Cosmos or Axelar) is open, in order to complete your transaction. Click here to learn how to set up AXL on Ledger.
Keplr is a crypto wallet for the Cosmos ecosystem.
This should be an EVM chain, like Avalanche.
This should be Axelar.
A pop-up will appear, displaying a button with the MetaMask logo. Click the button. A MetaMask pop-up will appear. Select the account you want to use and click [Next], then [Connect].
Confirm the address you are sending to and click [Confirm]. Click [Send from MetaMask].
MetaMask will generate a transaction window. Hit [Confirm].
AXL is a chain-agnostic token, meaning it can be represented on various chains. The ERC-20-compatible version of AXL, used on EVM chains, is called wAXL. This tutorial shows how to convert
“In order to reach the next billion end users, Web3 needs to onboard millions of developers. Mysten Labs is paving the way for that with an asset-oriented programming language and a developer-friendly environment”
With AXL token release schedules beginning today, the Axelar network reaches a new level of decentralization, and establishes itself as the most secure and richly featured cross-chain network available.
